Christmas Party and AGM Sunday 18th December 2011
The NW Group welcomed Bernard Manson Chairman of the Haemophilia Society to our Annual General Meeting who talked about the society's plans for 2012 and beyond and said that the website and information services was a key priority. Bernard met with the committee and families to find out what they would like from the Society. Michelle Semmens stepped down as Chairman however will remain on the committee as Communications Officer. Peter Semmens and Dr Bolton-Maggs left the committee. Graeme Kerby will take over as Chairman and Sue Kerby as Treasurer with David Fielding staying on as Vice Chairman and Glenda Greenhalgh as Secretary. We were also pleased to welcome two families from the Yorkshire Group who we will be working with in the future. The Christmas Party followed the meeting including a visit from Santa, raffle and a comfortable bar.
North West Group Weekend - 2nd to 4th September 2011
The Group was pleased that so many members booked on our event. We were able to run the weekend for 20 families through kind donations, fundraising events and part funding from a legacy left to us by Mrs Hall. There was a mix of leisure time and interactive workshops and the food provided was great. I would like to say thank you to the workshop leaders who came on the Saturday; Dr Bolton-Maggs (Manchester Royal Infirmary), David Henderson (Haemophilia Society), Christine Cammiss (Royal Manchester Children's Hospital) and Nigel Pegram (Haemophilia Society) who shared their knowledge and expertise in different aspects of living with a bleeding disorder. Three volunteers, Sue Kerby, Caroline Meachin and Peter Semmens looked after the age 7 to 13 age group with indoor and outdoor activities, playing games, films and a games console throughout the day. The Mobile Creche Company provided a crèche for 21 children age from 3 months to 6 years and were flexible in meeting our requirements. The weekend was topped off by a visit to Camelot Theme Park or spending the day at the leisure centre.
