Chairman’s Chat
Hello, I’m Michelle Semmens and I was elected as Chairman of the North West Group at the 2009 AGM in December. I have been a committee member since 2001 and spent 9 years as Treasurer, although I will never be too far away from the accounts as I am handing them over to hubby Peter, more from him in the Treasurer’s report. I am honoured to succeed Norma Guy and the late Alex Shaw, who was a great inspiration to all who knew her and a tireless supporter of the haemophilia community. As Chairman Alex was firm but fair and used her knowledge and understanding of the issues that affect our community in a positive way, Alex is very sadly missed.
Norma has been involved in the North West Group committee for over 30 years and in addition to Chairman of the NW Group has also been a trustee of the Haemophilia Society. Norma is well known in the Haemophilia world and has worked to build up many links with families, haemophilia centres, local businesses and pharmaceutical companies. These links are essential in ensuring that the North West Group reaches our members and supports you in the best way we can whether it is information, supporting the tainted blood campaign, events, grants to hospitals, head office projects or just being in touch. I have been working on the NW Group website so keep checking to find out about events, latest news, information on travelling in the UK and abroad, previous editions of factors and find out who your committee is by visiting the about us page. We have also just set up a facebook group just type in Haemophilia Society North West in the search page and click to join! I am looking forward to working in my new role as Chairman and would like to thank all members of the committee for volunteering year on year and keeping the Haemophilia Society North West Group the most active of all the local groups and finding new ways of reaching you, our members.
